To Strive, To Seek, To Find

To Strive, To Seek, To Find celebrates the 125th anniversary of Ferris State University. Such a public statement defined by stylized male and female forms and built out of thick corten steel is not just a sculpture but a monument. A monument to the higher ideals higher education is governed to achieve. Universities and colleges are labeled by mascots but stands as one of the few industries dedicated to evolving human beings. Ferris was an art phobic academic environment when I came to the university over three decades back. The drive to build figure driven public art statements with strong and compelling content became a passion and an undeniable professional agenda. It is not always the advantages that inspires new thinking. More often than not it is the limitations that spurs new ideas and new growth.
